Imperial White Peony Tea
White Peony, also known by the traditional name Bai Mu Dan, is a popular style of white tea made of young tea leaves and silvery unopened leaf buds. Our White Peony comes from Zhenghe town in Fujian Province, the original birthplace of white tea centuries ago. Distinguished by being plucked in "budsets" of one or two leaves and a bud, this tea has a sophisticated mouthfeel with a slightly stronger body than Silver Needles. A gentle and slow air-dry withering process results in a brilliant amber infusion with a honey-like viscosity and mild floral flavor with nutty undertones that pairs well with food.

Pine Needles - White - Pinus strobus

Pines embody the essence of resilience and determination, an arboreal image of 'mind over matter'. Growing among rocks and stones in inhospitable places where there is almost no soil, exposed to wind and weather, they inspire us to rise above difficulties and persist against the odds. Their resinous aroma elevates the spirit, clears the mind and makes the feet move lightly along the path. Their crowns waving gently in the sky above, they exude a lofty air of serenity and spread a sense of inner peace, tranquility and calm.

Those who are worn with fatigue and stress should make ample use of the refreshing and invigorating power of pines. In mythology Pines are commonly associated with the dwellings of fairies and gnomes. They symbolize humility, good fortune and prosperity, fertility and protection. Their evergreen needles are a certain indication of a potent life force. In the olden days, farmers sought to transfer this vital energy and protect their animals and kin by pinning some branches above the doors to ward off witchcraft, misfortune, disease and even lightning.

Infused into oil the needles are good for muscle aches and pains, rheumatism and arthritis, neuralgia, stiffness etc.

As a Tea they are also useful for respiratory problems like sinusitis and make a wonderful addition to a bath at the onset of a cold or flu, especially when one is feeling achy.

They stimulate the circulation and is useful for numbness, nervous exhaustion, fatigue and listlessness.

White Ginseng Root - Panax Ginseng
** NOTE 1/2 Oz **

The Chinese have cherished this plant, which they believe holds the keys to the secret of life, for thousands of years. The root is considered a panacea, a tonic for the whole system that ensures vitality, longevity and increased sexual vigor. Modern science, although begrudgingly acknowledging the beneficial effects of Ginseng, cannot actually find the 'active compound' that is supposed to be responsible for these life enhancing qualities. Instead, it has found a great number of apparently contradictory saponin triterpenoid glycosides called 'ginsenosides', which seem to cancel out each others actions. Western researchers thus conclude that Ginseng 'can't possibly have any beneficial effects'. The Chinese doctor on the other hand, concludes that this represents proof of Ginseng's balanced yin and yang forces, which are able to restore equilibrium by balancing any deficiency in either yin or yang within the body, as needed. In other words, they consider it an adaptogen. Almost all Chinese herbal compounds contain Ginseng. Experts indulge in a veritable 'science of ginsengology' claiming different uses and actions for each part of the root and method of preparation, of which there are many: dried, sugared, boiled, steamed, extracted with alcohol or even added to soups, to name but a few. Ginseng - the 'man root' is a true elixir of life.

Medicinal: Ginseng is a tonic that not only improves a wide variety of ailments, but also acts as a preventative. Chinese medicine includes Ginseng in numerous formulas for its overall balancing effects. Ginseng is used whenever the body is exposed to environmental, emotional or mental stress. Stress has many negative effects on the body, but one of the worst and most insidious ones is the over-stimulation and subsequent exhaustion of the adrenal glands. When stress exerts its negative effects for too long the adrenaline levels become depleted and the gland's ability to produce it is also diminished. As a result the body lacks the energy it needs to face even ordinary stress situations, becomes fatigued, unable to concentrate, emotionally unstable and easily depressed while simultaneously the immune system is also weakened. The normal sex drive is reduced and the individual shows neither lust nor luster.

Ginseng improves the function of the adrenal gland and thus helps the body to cope with these manifold symptoms of stress. Ginseng also improves the circulation and strengthens the heart. Improved circulation means improved blood supply and better functioning of the organs. All of these properties show that Ginseng's reputation as an overall tonic is more than justified.

In Chinese medicine it is often given in compound mixtures that address a particular part or function of the body, e.g. Ginseng and Ginkgo are said to be an ideal combination for mental stress, and to improve memory and the ability to concentrate. Ginseng is especially recommended for ailments associated with old age, but in this day and age where stress has become a way of life, it would be a good choice for anybody that wants to offset the negative effects of the rat-race before serious long-term consequences have actually started to manifest as chronic conditions.

It can be taken on a daily basis as tolerance is generally considered very good.

Magical Ginseng is used in healing rituals and as an amulet for good health, vitality, stamina, endurance and longevity. It is also said to bring good luck, fertility and abundance.

White Willow Bark - Salix alba

No other tree is as full of vitality and self- regenerating power as the Willow tree. Even cut and seemingly dead branches will come back to life when planted into the soil. This quality of unconstrained growth is exploited in the practice of pollarding. The newly sprouting flexible twigs, also known as 'withies', are regularly harvested and woven into baskets and light furniture. The wood itself is susceptible to rot- Willow loves to grow by the water's edge, but it does not resist its destructive power. Willows are sacred to the Triple Moon Goddess, whose mysteries of regeneration are evident in her abundant vitality. This is why sacrifices to the Great Goddess were always offered in wicker baskets - the regenerative power of the tree was magically transferred to the sacrificial offerings contained therein, which were soon to be reborn in the Underworld. Sacred to the Moon Goddess Hecate, Willow is a tree of magic and enchantment and associated with purification and resurrection. Witches fashioned their brooms with the life-giving withies.

Medicinal:
Willows became famous for their salicin content, which is powerfully anti-inflammatory and acts as a pain relief and febrifuge. For a while it was used as a substitute for the expensive Cinchona bark (Quinine) in the treatment of 'ague' (malaria). It also served as the precursor for salicylic acid, the base substance from which Aspirin was derived.
Willow bark is not as powerful as aspirin, but gentler on the stomach and thus better tolerated by most. It is a good nerve tonic and strengthening herb that is very helpful in treating inflammatory conditions such as gout, arthritis and rheumatism. It is good for aching muscles and joints, especially where these are tensed from one-sided use and bad posture. It is a also good remedy for stomach and intestinal catarrh and may be helpful in bladder inflammation. It can be a great supporting herb in feverish conditions such as flu and other infectious diseases.

Magical:
Willow is a tree of witches that has been used in fertility magic to both, increase and decrease fecundity. It is associated with the ebb and flow of the lunar tides, with water and with magic. It is sacred to the Underworld Goddesses and symbolizes transformation, regeneration and rebirth. Elves and water spirits often live near Willows and thus, in popular thought, Willows are considered 'spooky trees'. Native Americans included Red Willow Bark as a sacred herb in their KinniKinnick blends.
